It is a beautiful but busy time to be working in the Orchards, the grass has been cut and pruning undertaken with branches gathered and piled high. All of the trees are in varying stages of blossom with some varieties already producing sets of tiny Apples.

Apple Blossom is perhaps best known as being white with hints of pink, however the range of colour varies greatly in our Orchards from one variety to another with some flowers being deeper Pink or Crimson in colour.

Despite the unpredictability of this seasons weather it looks like The Kent Cider Orchards are producing a great crop, with the hundrers of new Cider Apple Trees planted last year firmly building their Kent roots.

A big thankyou to everyone that attended our annual Wassail ( or Yowling as we call it in Kent )

It was a beautiful cold, clear and frosty night, but our toes and hands were kept warm by the big bonfire and plenty of warm SPICED CIDER.

Bread and salt was left for the Robins and CIDER was given to the the “King” tree in accord with tradition.

This year all of our guests donned masks creating a magical atmosphere , there were some fantastic homemade masks to be seen ( check out our Facebook page for the full album! )

The music and songs along with the blessing of the trees were provided by a number of our friends from ‘The Dead Horse Morris’ of Whitstable, Kent.

This follows the great recommendation that our Spiced Cider received from Last Novembers Sunday Times Style magazine.

At the events we have attended so far this year our “Iced Spiced Cider” has been proving a firm favorite on the Hot Spring days that we have been having.

Serving Suggestion:

Take one large jug add a generous handful of ice, a couple of wedges of juicy fresh orange and a sprig of garden mint. Serve in a tall glass. Delicious!

Cider, bread and salt were left as an offering to the tree spirits to ask for a good crop for the year to come. All in all a nice way to welcome the new year.

Although we still have a bit of winter to get through, the hedgerows and the animals that make them their home are beginning to show signs that spring is not to far away.

Pruning is nearly over and we have started preparation for the planting of our new orchard.

After an extremly busy and hectic December with the “Spiced Cider” January gives us the opportunity to re-group and plan for the year ahead.

In addition to our range of UNIQUE, HAND PRESSED, ARTISAN APPLE CIDERS we have added to our range a PEAR CIDER, which is the quintessential taste of the KENT HARVEST.

An interesting and exciting year ahead!
